Make friends with a Gypsy
Mordecai — Wed, 11/28/2007 - 01:50
Gypsies are cool, seriously
Of all the classes we have, the Gypsy class is the most utilitarian.
And in a way a Gypsy is like a Priest and a Thief fused into one class. Pow!
Gypsies can steal items, pick locks, cast protection spells, embue armor, tinker weapons modifying them to increase the weapon's damage by up to +6d+6, and also at higher tiers they can use a very special skill called Woodsing.
Now I actually wanted to blog about Woodsing, and not Gypsies, but I had to start somewhere.
Woodsing
The first step towards using this skill is exploring and finding a magic tree growing somewhere.
Woodsing works by transforming the tree into a staff which is a powerful type of focus item.
There are limitations to the quality of the staff which is sung from the tree.
The quality is dependent on both the skill of the singer and the age of the tree.
As a tree gets older, it allows for a much better staff to be sung from it.
Also, the more skilled the player and the higher his/her level, the better the staff will be.
eg. A tier 4, level 50 Gypsy, with Woodsing, may be able to sing a staff which has a damage multiplier of 2.05, or possibly even more, if they find an old enough tree.
A low level gypsy, who has just attained the skill, will only be able to coax relatively weak stave's from the trees.
As with most things a Gypsy does, creating a staff is a chance to make money.
Unfortunately, as with tinker, the stave's do not last forever.
Once sung, a stave will slowly rot, and finally disappear.
But what the customer doesn't know, will not hurt them right?
Magic Trees
Around the realms, mighty trees grow in great forests. Some of these trees have an innate magical presence that sets them aside from the others.
This magic may be utilised by a high tier Gypsy to transform the tree into a potent magical staff which can be used as a focus item.
Unfortunately, the trees grow very slowly, and competing for the wood are the lumberjacks of the realms, who seek to harvest the trees for less important purposes.
There is always a constant number of 50 magical trees around the realms at any one time.
As one tree gets chopped down or sung to, a new sapling sprouts in a random place somewhere in the forests of the realms.
Trees now age properly, going up 1 age unit every 5 days.
Woodsing creates staves with AFFECTS on them: Mana, Charisma, Int, Wis, and HP
| Tree | Affect | Max stat | Chance of tree growing | Age that stats appear |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Willow | speed | 240 | 1 in 20 | 5 |
| Elder | speed | 110 | 1 in 5 | 1 |
| Pine | cha | 9 | 1 in 10 | 1 |
| Dogwood | wis | 3 | 1 in 15 | 6 |
| Ironwood | hp | 1000 | 1 in 15 | 3 |
| Fir | mana | 2000 | 1 in 20 | 1 |
| Maple | int | 3 | 1 in 10 | 3 |
| Elm | mana | 1000 | 1 in 10 | 1 |
| Oak | hp | 500 | 1 in 5 | 2 |
