Playtesting the Gladiator Arena - Some info

  • View
  • Outline

Molly — Tue, 12/25/2007 - 06:29

There are several purposes with playtesting the arena:
- To find out if the area, scripts and code work as intended
- To prevent possible ways of cheating in future fights
- To check if the Gladiator chars have suitable stats or if they need to be tweaked
- To check if the different classes are balanced against each other

To prevent potential 'cheating', we need the following safety measures to work:
- Gladiators should not be able to leave the arena
- Other players should not be able to enter the Arena
- Gladiator equipment, potions etc. should be confined to the Arena
- It should also be impossible to get objects or mobs in from the outside
- And of course anything else that your inventive little minds could think of

To test the ‘safety’ measures of the Arena, we’ll allow multiplaying of a Gladiator and a ‘normal’ char during the playtesting period. Once the regular Arenas start, normal multiplaying rules will apply.

The Gladiator zone has two parts, one is confined to Gladiators, the other one is public, with entrance from the Map Room south of Recall. The Public part contains a 3 room Gladiator office with some general info and two Spectators’ Galleries, one to the Main Arena and one to the smaller Training Arena. You can look into the Arena from the galleries, but hopefully not enter it.

Unfortunately the Spectator code hasn’t been finished yet, but the aim is to make it possible for spectators to follow the fights from different parts of the galleries. (More about this later, when the code is ready to get implemented)

The Testing period will also allow the playtesters to get familiar with the surroundings, and find their way around the Arena and the Gladiator School, but here is some general info:

The connection between Gladiator School and the Arena will be closed during the real events, but is kept open during the play-testing period.

There are supply shops for food, drink, magic items and some extra equipment, in the Gladiator School, all of them free of charge. Each Gladiator is responsible for keeping themselves fully equipped, stocked up and in good form for the fights.

During the real events supplies will be scarce, and each player will only be allowed to bring 8 heals and 4 sanc potions into the Arena. To get a pre-taste of this, the healer in Gladiator School will only sell the same amount of these potions to each player between zone resets.

Not all the Gladiators are ‘finished’ yet, and when you log one on the first time, you might need the help of an imm to adjust your stats and set your skills and spells to 80%

The following stats have been suggested for the different Classes.
- Rogue: STR: 22/100 INT: (unneccessary) WIS: (unneccessary) CON: 22 DEX: 22 CHA: (unneccessary) Speed: 1000 Hitroll: Above 40Damroll: 80
- Fighters: STR: 22/100 INT: (unneccessary) WIS: (unneccessary) CON: 22 DEX: 22 CHA: (unneccessary) Speed: 900 Hitroll: Above 40 Damroll: 85
- Casters: STR: 22/100 INT: 22 WIS: 22 CON: 22 DEX 22 CHA 85 Speed: 500 Hitroll: 30 Damroll: 0
Opinions and/or other suggestions will be welcome.

When all the Gladiators have been set up with the correct stats and all their skills set to 80 %, the real fighting tests will start, to determine if the chars are suitably balanced.

Please keep the descriptions of the Gladiators as they are, the sponsors put a lot ow work into those.
