Questions about how the game works

I'm new here, where can I go to level?

Kvetch — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 11:46

We suggest that for your first 10 levels you go through the mudschool and the zones around it. There's enough there to level you to 10 and beyond.

After 10 levels:
Prehistoric:
Old Carthage (has some tough mobs) and Carthage Bay
Medieval:
Sanctuary Haze, Tournament Place
Old West:
Buffalo Bill's Circus
Future:
The Spaceship Titanic, Golf Course, The planet Endor, The planet Dagobah

And if the above zones become to easy but you still want somewhere not too hard:
Prehistoric:
Greek Archipelago, Ali Baba's Cave
Medieval:
Archers in Old Yorke, Ice Palace (will be a bit tough), NightDragon Realms
Old west:
The Range, Dirt Farm, Legend
Future:
The Gamegrid, The planet Tattooine, New Goznemia, Necromunda II, Planet Reptilia

This information is also posted on the Seekers board by Diandra.

I'm not seeing the damage I'm doing to mobs, is there any way to change that?

Kvetch — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 11:22

The quick answer is yes. The longer answer goes like this: You need to change your battleprompt. To do this type bprompt and then the variables you want in your prompt.

You can add your own fields into your prompt using ones from the list below.

The '%' character means a variable.

'T':current hour

't':current minute

's':current sec

'H':maxhitp

'h':hitp

'M':maxmana

'V':maxmove

'v':move

'G':bank gold

'g':hand gold

'e':current exp

'E':needed exp

'x':hitp in a percentage

'y':mana in a percentage

'z':move in a percentage

'n':your name

'N':leaders name

'F':victims name in combat

'L':victims level in combat

'f':victims health percentage

'l':your level

'!':newline

'k':kills

'K':pk kills

'r':deaths

'R':pk deaths

'i':group involvement

'j':alignment

'b':riding

'B':ridden by

'c':clan name

'J':leaders hp percentage

'd':last damage you did

'D':last damage done to you

'X':Percentage Exp TNL

'S':Percentage Stamina

'1':Weather info

'2':Day/Night/Twilight

'3':Temperature

'm':mana

for example: PROMPT %hH %mM %vV>

Would display like: 1234H 1234M 1234V>

Note: bprompt is the prompt only shown in battle. We also have the basic prompt that is shown outside of battle. There are some things you only need to know when fighting - like how much damage you deal to the mob you're fight or how much damage you're taking from said mob, which is why we have the two different prompts. Now, having said that, the prompts automatically change when you're in battle. You do not have to remember any command to change your prompt.

To go back to the original prompt type:

prompt default

and

bprompt default

I'm with a trainer, but how do I find out what he trains? Then how do I train with them?

Kvetch — Mon, 11/10/2008 - 10:59

When you're in the room with a trainer type skills or spells depending on what you're looking for. If you want either, just type in one then the other. It will list the skills and spells that particular trainer can teach you. Once you know what you want and you're with the trainer that has it, type practice (skill/spell name). For example, if you're with the trainer that teaches magic missiles, type practice magic missile.

I see people with animals following them. How can I get one?

Kvetch — Sat, 11/08/2008 - 17:35

Mounts and pets can be useful in many ways: they can hold items for you, you
can order them; mounts help you reduce the loss of movepoints when you travel
and you can participate in races with them.
You can buy them in pet shops and livery stables (for instance in Old York and
the IGTCs), they will be automaticly charmed and follow you when they land in
the room. You can also order your own personal mount or pet, but this requires
a playerhouse with an extra room, and is very expensive. For more info on
playerhouses see The 4D Real Estate Company near Recall.

I see people with a (Helper) flag. What's so special about them?

Kvetch — Tue, 11/04/2008 - 09:33

Helpers are those people who have proven that they are willing to help new people adapt to our mud as it's quite a bit different than other muds out there. Also, if you go through our mudschool we have special vouchers for you to find (to help you learn some of the special things about 4Dimensions) and you can turn them into a helper to receive a special prize. But, Helpers are not the ONLY people that help others.

Do I have to Roleplay to play 4Dimensions?

Kvetch — Thu, 10/30/2008 - 13:18

No, but roleplaying does add another level to the game. If you want to just go out and kill things, you're more than welcomed to, but if you want to roleplay, all you have to do is find someone that wants to roleplay with you. What you roleplay is up to you. RPL's (Roleplay leaders) will even give out award points to people that roleplay (just so long as they know about it so you may have to drop them a line or post on the website) and you can use those points to buy things that only roleplayers can have.

Current RPL's are:
Hesara
Lucrete
Riley
Natalya

Where is everyone?

Kvetch — Thu, 10/30/2008 - 12:59

We've players from all over the world, you probably just came on during a "down time". While the game is owned by someone in the United States, we've got quite a few players and immortals from Sweden, New Zealand and the Neatherlands which is quite a time difference, so don't worry, if there's not a lot of people on, that can change quickly.

Any useful commands I should know?

Mordecai — Tue, 02/26/2008 - 09:57

Sure any of the help files are useful - in fact, help new is a good help file for newbies.

The following commands you use without help in front of them:

Are there any nifty shop tricks?

Mordecai — Tue, 02/26/2008 - 09:53

Thank you for asking, yes there is. If you list the items that a shopkeeper sells (type list) then type in id #number of the item you like. You will then see what the item does without using a scroll of identify before you buy it.
