Builders' Hall of Fame

  • View
  • Outline

Many Builders have come and gone in 4 Dimensions. Few of those ever completed their zone. Fewer even left a lasting impact on the Realms. But there are some that did. 4 Dimensions has been blessed by a staff of some of the best and most creative Builders available on the net. This Builders' Hall of Fame has been erected in remembrance of some of those truly outstanding and amazing Builders.

Statue of BloodQueen
BLOODQUEEN, is one of the all time favourite of mine, because of her evil and devious mind, and the funniest DT in the game. She says that descs bore her, but is actually very good at them. She is even better at making objects and Quests, probably because she's always been a packrat herself. Emory has always got an obsession about possessions. She loves cool items - treasures, jewels and pretty clothes. And you can tell from the zones she makes. She is one of the few able to use colours in an aesthetic and tasteful way, not just bright and flashy.
So far she's built 3 challenging 100 room zones with the theme of Old Egypt. She is now working on a grand project, a 500 room Future Shopping Mall, which I expect will attract a large crowd - who might come in the hope of doing some cheap shopping, but end up getting a quite few nasty surprises they didn't expect...

Statue of Crystal
Crystal is my right hand, and the second-in-command because I can trust her completely, and because she usually FINISHES the large projects she starts. But she is also an ardent and extremely talented Builder. Her descs are poetic and captivating, with flavour and atmosphere, and always true to the Time period.
Crystal has built totally 600 rooms of medieval zones so far, and is working on a really big Future zone, 'The City of Sinsations'. And no, that isn't a typo - Crystal has a flair for 'kinky' sex, so this zone is really a bit X-rated and you'll have to be above 18 to even enter it. *snicker*
But the thing I appreciate her for more than anything else is that she relieved me of the tedious and thankless task of making personalised player equipment, a job that has to be done on line. It also needs patience and tolerance, because most players are quick to bitch but slow to say thanks for the job.
Regrettably Crystal has left us, due to RL events, but her zones are still here and still among the most popular in the game.

Statue of DarkWolf
Some people are just born Builders, and DARKWOLF is one of them. He started his building career with the Sicilian Clan Hall, still one of the coolest in the Realms, and he built it in an amazingly short time. Then he went on to build Little Italy, where you really get the flavour of the gangster era of the 1930s. Perhaps it's the fact that he was a professional writer in Real Life that makes his descriptions so vibrantly alive.
DW ended his career here with Outer Space, still a very challenging zone. He has left us by now, and he is one of the Builders I most deeply regretted to see go.
He's made a couple of short re-appearances here as a mortal, but never went back to building again. I guess being an imp in his own mud took all his effort, but still, building was his real talent, and I really wish that he'd stayed with us...

Statue of Lonewolf
LONEWOLF calls himself 'The King of Typos'. And even if there is some truth to that nickname, that's not all there is to be said about Lonewolf.
He is also a very talented and dedicated Builder. Typos apart, his descs are usually interesting and informative. And because he is one of our most experienced players he knows the Realms inside out, and he also has a kind and helpful disposition. So his zones are very educating for new players, challenging without being too hard, and well adapted to the levels the zone is intended for.
He's built two 100 room zones so far, one is mostly 'hunting ground', but with a couple of nice Quests, and the other is a 'Newbie Arena', which is a kind of extension to our Mud School. The best part of this Arena is the many 'mini Quests' he put in, introducing the new players to the ways of this mud, and teaching them some of the tricks and commands that are special to it.

Statue of Molly O'Hara
I really cannot set up this Builders' Hall of Fame without tooting my own horn a bit. (After all, that is what all the old rulers did. They erected numerous monuments and statues to render themselves immortal. Ramose II for instance cluttered his monogram all over Egypt...)
And after all, the majority of the zones in this mud were built by the small Family Firm 'Molly & Peace Building and Wrecking Co Inc'. My old partner in crime, Peace, left us ages ago. To tell the truth, he never was much of a Builder anyhow - he didn't have the patience for it. But he's the one that got me hooked on mudding, and without him there would probably never have been a Builder named Molly.
One thing that few people have known over the years is, that there are actually 3 different people behind the Building firm Molly & Co. Like I said, a small Family Firm. And between the three of us we now have over 50 zones to our name...

Statue of Mordecai
MORDECAI has probably made a larger impact on the 4D community than any other player, apart from the imps. First as a player and Clan leader, then as a builder, and finally as main Scriptor and Coder.
He is something of a 'Mad Genius'. His first zone, Midlands, is still among the most popular in the mud, even though it is also one of the most challenging. (It also had more cute 'cheat' items than any other zone I've revised so far, but that's yet another story).
But above all, Mordecai is a wizard at scripts. He has more or less revolutionised our mud and revived several of the oldest zones with his funny, twisted, imaginative and totally amazing scripts. Most of the Builders, including myself, rely on him for support with tricky scripts.
Regrettably Mordecai is looking for bigger challenges and I'm about to lose him to the coder, who now seems to have discovered his special talents too. My loss, but the Mud's gain, I hope.

Statue of Palpatine
PALPATINE was one of the old time Builders in 4D and one of the better, even though it is true that few of the old time zones live up to the higher standards we set today. Palpatine built Starwars, a large and still very popular zone, with something for all levels. For quite some time killing Boba Fett was the ultimate achievement in the mud. And even if some bigger and badder mobs have been added since then, Boba still holds his ground.
Palpatine also started the Dark Jedi Clan, so the DJ Clan Hall is his work, as is most of the Future Space Port, with its many shuttles to different planets.
And I am still hoping that one day he'll come back and finish the really nasty 'Alien versus Predator' zone he left uncompleted behind in the Buildport... After all, he left Starwars unfinished for almost 2 years, then returned to complete it in 2 weeks. So you never know.

Statue of Shartrance
SHARTRANCE is remarkable because of her talent, humour, wit, intelligence - and kinky twists. Her 400 room zone, the old bedside story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves retold for ADULTS, has kept her audience amused, challenged, frustrated and cursing her name for quite some time now. I laughed out loud myself the first time I read some of her descs. Each Dwarf has his own naughty story, based on the woman of his choice. And each story has its own Quest, some of them extremely hard.
Shartrance has more or less left 4D by now, but can usually be relied on to return, when some Twink has blabbed about the solution to one of her Quests. Return, to stamp her foot in anger, and then take the zone out to revamp it, making it yet a bit more evil, twisted, frustrating and hard to get through...
And she is currently working on finishing Alabastor's legacy Killer Klowns, so the future vistors should expect the worst.

Statue of Snowbird
No list of the Top Builders of 4D would be complete without SNOWBIRD. True, she never finished her major opus, Utopia, which was designed to be the entrance and centre of the Future Dimension. But once she was a dedicated and talented Builder. Once she was one of the 2 Head Builders and one of the 4 Imps of 4 Dimensions. What made her relinquish all this power and withdraw to a relatively secluded life as a mortal? Perhaps it was the code change? Perhaps the prospect of having to help convert 50 zones, made her lose all taste for Building? Maybe that had some part in it.
But more than anything else, I think it was love. Snowbird, the great Goddess, fell in love with a mere mortal. Since immortals and mortals are not allowed to marry, she gave up her powers, her position and her immortality just to be with the man of her choice. I guess you can call it the Power of Love.

Statue of Sonya Jones
Even as relatively new to 4D, SONYA has never the less earned the Status of Quality Builder. Being an ardent Roleplayer and Questor herself, she quickly caught on to the things that make this mud a bit special - the hidden depths in the zones, the secrets that only the few really good players ever unravel. And Sonya uses all these tricks when building. The extra descs, the listen and smell descs, the hidden portals and containers, all the things that the average hack'n'slashers just scoot past in their pursuit of quick and easy exp... All these are present in Sonya's zone Quixotica.
Only rarely do you find a first zone so mature and fully fledged. It also has one of the funniest mobs in the Game, the Mynah bird, whose vocabulary increases as you speak to it. (Mordecai may have helped her with the script, but the idea was Sonya's).
And she is working now on her next zone, an extension of Quixotica, where you take on the size of an ant to explore the grass jungle.

Statue of Tanaea
TANAEA, my fellow evil bitch, started out as the best player in the mud, went on to be the biggest bug abuser, then the biggest bug reporter, then the best Builder of her time, then our Website designer, then - just about as she was going to rise to the state of Coder - decided to go on a yearlong Around-the-world Tour. She has returned home to Australia now, and although we more or less lost her to her RL job, she still runs our Website and occasionally visits the mud to dish the dirt with her friends. And we still have her zones, 750 rooms of Australia, ranging from the gay, funny and provocative Mardi Gras Parade in Sydney, to the aborigines in the Outback, with the legends and Dream Trails, the Rainbow Serpent, and rock paintings of Uluru. It is a journey that leaves you breathless, overawed - and slightly annoyed, for Cali, being a funny and evil person, has added some rather nasty twirks to her zones, and her Quests are usually not very obvious ones.

Statue of Katriel
KATRIEL, one of the 4D Star Builders, took to building like a duck to water. She shot right to the top of her profession, with apparently no effort. In a very short time she has built three zones in the Medieval and one in the Future Dimension, all in all almost 500 rooms - and not just ANY old rooms. You can tell from her descs that she is a writer in real life.
The three zones in Medieval: Enchanted Lands, City of the Tulipek and Mount Kuromeru, are closely related and intertwined. They share an elaborate and intriguing storyline, and almost everything in them interacts to further this plot. These zones have amazing depth and detail, and above all, they have a storyline.
The Future Zone, Cosmo Canyon, is more playful, but it has an inner part, which very few players have discovered so far. This is typical for Seraphines zones, they all have hidden depths that you have to search quite a bit for.
Katriel has returned lately after a long absence, and resumed her work here, although slightly hampered by her RL baby now. The brand new Spaceport Mall, where players can spend all their gold, is mostly her work, and naturally it contains both a baby shop and a pediatrician. She also likes to create seasonal Quest and all the personalised things that players spend their tokens on.

Statue of Durgan
DURGAN is a bit of a joker, an illusionist and a very apt creator of mysterious thingamajigs. He loves to experiment with scripts, and to create new features that never were seen before in the Realms. He is famous for his ingenious objects and quests, not to mention his army of pygmies that seem to follow him everywhere he goes.
And he does come and go a lot, sometimes being absent for months. But when he is here, he is extremely productive, rolling out full fledged zones in an incredibly short time. So far there are five of them, two in Medieval (The Citadel of Thandar and The Town of Ta-Beneth) and three in Future (Orbiter, and the two Whotvar planets).
Without any doubt Durgan is one of the most skilled scriptors in 4D - and we have several. If you want something really complex, Durgan is the guy to ask.
He has also spent an enormous amount of work on the Crafts system. It may not be implemented yet, because of it size and complaxity, but when it does it will be mostly owing to Durgan's scripts and auxiliary objects.

Statue of Solana
It's hard to believe that SOLANA has been with us less than two years now, since she really made an incredible impact as a Builder. To me it feels like she's been here forever, and I don't know how I managed without her. She's been taken over many of the tasks earlier carried out by Crystal and Sonya, who both have left 4D, Crystal for good, Sonya hopefully just on extended leave.
But above all she has revived the Old West Dimension, with her three California zones from the goldrush; Sutter's Fort, Sutter's Mill and Sutter's Mine, all in all 500 rooms. And a fourth one, The California Trails, has just been completed.
Solana's zones are all true to time period, very rich in detail and full of Quests and other pastimes. She is a bit of a perfectionist, and never lets go of a project until it's fully functional in all aspects.
And some day she may even get the time to finish any of the three medieval zones that she brought with her when she first arrived, but very loyally put on hold because the need of expanding the Old West Dimension was so much bigger. But that might take some time, because together with Durgan, she is also involved in the very time-consuming Crafts project.
