Newbie Help
First Things First...
Ok, so Welcome to 4 Dimensions. The chances are that if you're reading this now then you are either a new player or are considering it, or you aren't and you just fancied taking a look at this rather cool page simply because you can. So what if you are a newbie? What do you do once you have created your character and logged into the game?
Well, in truth there are a number of things you can and should do but it is difficult to actually put them in any particular order of priority. Because of this, I have listed below a number of things that you should do and I leave it entirely up to you to pick the order in which you do them. Either way, it will set you off on your journey a little more prepared than you might have been if you hadn't visited this page first. So, your options are..
Type HELP HELP then choose option 194 - This will set you off on the road to discovering our many help files within the game that can and should be able to answer most of the questions you're likely to have.
Now type just HELP on its own and you will be shown an extensive list of the many different commands available to you, categorized into their relevant sections to make it as understandable as possible.
If you still get stuck with anything then you can type HELP NEW and this will show you how to get additional help from other players in the game. (We do have registered helpers willing to spend time helping).
Typing I or Inv will show you a list of all the items you are carrying round with you at any one time. From there you will be able to WEAR your clothing, EQUIP your weapons and HOLD any light you may need.
You should also find an important note in your possession which would be a good thing to READ right about then. This gives you a few extra pieces of useful information.
You may be interested in typing TOGGLE which will show you a list of options that you have the ability to change in order to get the most out of your game play.
Some screens of use to you during your game will be GOLD, (which shows your current wealth), SCORE, (this shows your current stats which can be explained using the HELP files). WHO gives you a screen list of all the players currently online, LOOK AROUND will give you a small description of the zone you are in and the rough levels of the zone.
Ok, now you've played around with some of the above commands you have at least some knowledge of what you are getting yourself into. Now you're ready to actually start playing and learning at the same time. If you type LOOK you will get the room description of the room you are currently in. (Hopefully you should still be near the entrance to Mud School). This is exactly where you need to be heading next. The 4d Mud School was created to help educate new players not only on how to play Mud's but also how to play 4 Dimensions since every mud is different in many ways.
The best piece of advice anyone could give you at this point is that you should be reading everything you see on your screen, in every single room you enter. Some things are actually there that you may not even see but there will be clues to those which you have to look out for. Some ways to do this are to LOOK and EXAMINE anything in the rooms description that could be a possible object. You may be given some further information or a description of some hidden object. Also, you have the ability to SEARCH the room although quite often, doing this just once can give you no results, maybe trying it several times to do a complete search of the room may give you something, or not. Another thing you have at your disposal are your senses, in other words SMELL, LISTEN and even TASTE are used here. They can often provide extra clues as to what may be in the room or nearby. Don't forget that if something does show up at that point then you can also use the same commands on whatever did show up. Those same commands can also be used not only in rooms but on objects that you may come across during your game. Sometimes they may offer an extra description or a further clue.
These are things that you will learn during your time in the mud school but I thought it best to add them here just for those players who like to know what they can do before they actually try it.. (which funnily enough is what you should do. Try anything. If you can do it in real life then have a try here, you just never know how realistic this game has been made). Just don't forget that everything you have read here is actually in the game itself so you should never get that stuck. And all the main commands I have shown you have a HELP file should you wish to know more about them.
