Global RP Event starts on Friday

This was already posted on the front Website, but I thought it best to start a thread for it here too, since it is easier to discuss and ask questions here.

So, starting with the warning we received from CIIA in USA:

“Thanks to our advanced scanning equipment, our agents have succeeded in intercepting a number of messages, between a notorious professional hitman, known to the Police only as MadMax, and someone calling themselves 'The Poet'. The intercepted communication shows that 'The Poet' has contracted Madmax to carry out an unspecified number of murders. MadMax is already the main suspect in a number of serial killings in USA and other countries, but has so far never been apprehended. Apparently he sells his services to the highest bidder, but he also appears to take a personal pleasure in the killings. Although he uses different disguises and different weapons, there is one thing consistent in all the murders he is suspected of: The victim's left pinky finger is always cut off. (It is not clear whether he does this as a kind of signature, or whether he actually collects the fingers as souvenirs). As for The Poet, apparently he/she is residing in the 4 Dimensions, but the CIIA hasn't been able to secure any information about name, address or even gender. We have not yet any information about when MadMax is planning to leave USA, but since the deal seems to have already been closed, it will probably be within a week or two. You had better take all possible measures to warn the public and to stop these planned killings. Signed, Joe Goodbody, Foreign Affairs Director of CIIA (Central Intergalactic Intelligence Agency)"

What we expect from the players is of course to figure out who it is in 4D that could be angry or desperate enough to hire a hitman from USA for their dirty work. You can do this both by using your deductive skills, and by Roleplaying out the investigation, interview various suspects etc..

More specifically the task is this:

A: Find and neutralize MadMax.

B. Identify The Poet, and figure out the motive for the crimes.

There will be the usual rewards; Award Points and Tokens. You’ll get Award points for good RP Sessions, which should be logged, cleaned up from spam and posted on the Roleplayer Board in the Forum. There will also be a pretty substantial Token reward for the first player to figure out who The Poet is, and what the motive is for the killings. When you think that you know, you should send a note to Molly, but don’t be too hasty about it. Each player - (including alts) – only gets 2 guesses, so if you should change your mind later, you might have already wasted your chances.

Lionheart asked a question on the webpage, below is a copy and my response to it:

Question:

Can I start RPing the hell out of the player and try to spot MadMax and ThePoet?
Should I really post all the RP sessions on the RP board while the event is running?
Would not this help who didn't RP spot the suspects reading my sessions?

Reply:
The main purpose of the event is to be entertaining, and to give some opportunities for fun Roleplay.
So yes, everyone should post their logs on the website while the event is running. If someone actually spots the suspects simply from reading a single session, it should be pretty obvious from the logs who did the main investigation work, and we'll take that into account when deciding about the Token reawards, as well as the Award points.

You know how a reward is usually announced in the Newspaper: 'If anyone can provide information that can lead to the apprehension of the culprit, there will be a reward of X thousand dollars'.
So you'll get rewarded for the information, whether you did the actual catch or not.

But the most likely thing is that someone will read all the sessions, and then draw their conclusion from them, and from the evidence that we will provide in the game. This is not going to be an easy time, so the idea is that the entire Mud should work together to avert the threat.

Does that mean that all the various imms will be cast as characters and the players try to find out who the poet is via roleplaying?

It might, but there might also be other ways of figuring it out, via the evidence that will be collected at each crime scene.

Simply put, every imm, player or mob in 4D could be the Poet.

And the imms will take on different roles by switching into various mobs.
So, if there is an imm on line, and you want a RP session to occur, alerting that imm over tell would be a good idea. You can of course roleplay without imms too, but an imm participating, might make it more... interesting.

I imagine most of these questions will be answered pretty much by the event itself.. When it starts, you'll understand what is happening, and go with the flow of it. It'll be the first big RP event a lot of you have participated in, and there's nothing you need to worry about.
