Title: Player Emote
Post by: Asmodeus on January 25, 2010, 10:26:06 pm
Ok, obviously this is not an original idea, but i think it would be a really good add.

I was hoping we could get some sort of player emote so you can direct emotes to pcs or npcs.  For those of you who dont know what i mean...

If the command was 'pemote', id type...

pemote cackles with glee as he tags Kitolani!

Kito would see 'Asmodeus cackles with glee as he tags you!'
Others would see 'Asmodeus cackles with glee as he tags Kitolani!'

Basically its just making it so emotes look more correct and IC.  would be better for RP, obviously, and also gives the possibility of no longer needing people to make a bunch of new socials.

Yes? No?

I roll to evade!

pmotes would also make group secks much more sensible. Won't somebody PLEASE think of the saints??!

Heh I suggested that months ago.

Not entirely sure how scripts work with emotes but this immediately makes me think: abuse abuse abuse. Otherwise I'd like it for the fact that I hate all current socials and emotes suck because of their suckiness. I hate most socials used towards me though especially from people I don't really know, and this would just make that more annoying. Overall I don't mind.  :-*

Did someone mention group secks?

Viri, im not going to even respond to you in this particular instance... im sure id just end up yelling at you about nothing after ive made my point.

Horus, does that mean you'll do it sooner than later?  so you can have some group secks?

I've been trying to think what you could possibly mean by pmote could be abused abused abused... care to explain?

I remember back when you could abuse healer mobs by sending them tells and getting healed from far away. Sometimes that kind of thing can be still done with some socials (though hardly ever anymore), but I think with something like pmote it might become easier to fuck with scripts.

As far as I know, scripts do not respond to emotes.

Also emotes are restricted to people in the same room.
I really hope you are not planning to make pmotes global? If so, I am totally against it.

Molly: I was just thinking it would be restricted to rooms, just like emote.  Only difference is it would just change emotes to show 'you' or 'her' or 'he' or something  specific to whatever player the pmote was directed at.  We dont need another version of afar... we dont even need afar :p

Virisin: I think all that crap, or most of it, has been fixed a long time ago.  Plus, when dealing with scripts on mobs/players, you could just type "emote gives you a letter from the pope" when it deals with one person, and to you it would show the same thing with "pmote gives Virisin a letter from the pope"... same with a mob - "pmote gives Billy a letter from the pope".  If you were billy, you would see the same thing as if it were an emote.  So i dont think pmote would be able to screw with scripts any more than emote could.  (sorry, thats a lot of babbling, i'm getting ready to leave at the same time)

Hell no, it shouldn't be global!  >:(
In fact, we should make heap big wampum for pmote...We give'm "Afar" for trade.
*Does a ghost dance so that 'afar' will go away*

pmotes have always been restricted to person ONLY in the rooms.

You know, I suggested pmote on this forum months ago and I got "on the to do list...AFTER skill trees"

and yet...

Asmo says something on pmotes and bam, people are talking. You guys suck :P

Toch;
People are talking... I don't see anything being done about it in the coding department though.

It's still "on the to do list...AFTER skill trees"...  :P

After skill trees, after mob AI, after dg_script fixes, after OLC re-write ...

Yep yep. I remembered you having written a thread about this awhile ago, Toch, but being the intolerably lazy bums we are, we can't be bothered to go thread digging. In about a month from now, when one of us remembers again, instead of digging this thread up, I'm sure we'll just make a new one on the same subject. ;D

He's not thinking. He's a robot slave to the code now.... we've lost him forever.

And Horus needs to delegate better. I can work on the pemote command and since I will be doing spells as well. Horus needs to work on the base code and let Thotter and I work on other stuff. So Horus concentrate on the the base code. And let the other coders worry about adding commands / spells. And I agree it won't be a global command either.
