Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Spells
« on: March 10, 2011, 09:06:35 pm »
Right, there aren't many quests as is that alignment affects. That would be the minimal things it affects that would need to be fixed. Or perhaps just make alignment static. And dependent on your align, the path you take in a quest (those that use alignment) is forced. So you don't have a choice, just because of your affiliation. Now despite being static you can always pay or mini quest to have it changed. This way you dont have to worry about who or what you kill and know what align you are always.. just thoughts

Why not scrap alignment altogether? And fix the minimal things it does affect? One of those features that is more of a nuisance than any positives it may currently bring

A Tribute for Monthy Python and the Holy Grail

We're knights of the round table
We dance when e'er we're able
We do routines and parlour scenes
With footwork impecc-Able.
We dine well here in Camelot
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot
[dancing]
We're knights of the Round Table
Our shows are for-mid-able
Oh many times we're given rhymes
That are quite unsing-able
We not so fat in Camelot
We sing from the diaphragm a lot
[tap-dancing]
Oh we're tough and able
Quite indefatigable
Between our quests we [something]
And impersonate Clark Gable
It's a bit too loud in Camelot
I have to push the pram a lot.

good stuff eh

I think it is not entirely clans that will help the player base grow again, it is camaraderie. Every new player is another potential new player to stay. I kind of lived this idea when I was CL of Dragons.  I essentially took anyone into the clan, just had them perform simple find an item quest etc. At the same time teaching them the basics and fundamentals of questing on a better scale than the mud school. At the same time being their friend. This made Dragons the largest clan at the time of active members but we also got labelled as the noob clan because of the members we had.

This is what we need clans to become right now. With the little number of players we have we have too many clans. I would personally recommend to temporarily shut down clans like Qualinesti. Perhaps incorporate them into a clan currently there. I would recommend say two or three clans. One good, one neutral and one evil. This way if people join for an RP purpose they have a clan that would fit them.
And if every leader would treat it as I did back when I was Dragons CL and recruit anyone and everyone and teach them, and be friendly, in their own clan RP sort of way then people will certainly be more prone to stay.

After we begin to grow, we could then start doing RP events and such to re-open the temporarily shutdown clans, with player chosen leader for the clans.

If the first thing someone experiences when they join is a companion, someone who they can talk to when they log in, or a purpose and a reason to play and come back then I feel we have a chance at growing.

Also Klax's mention of MCCP, I am unaware of how this works exactly but it would definitely be something to look into. Right now we are still ranked #1 on mudgamers.com and if people are looking for a new mud, they will see that. Our next goal is to keep those new players, and I think we can do that first by simply 'making friends'

Lots of good times here for certain. Many aforementioned. Jaros and Viri got me good quite a number of times!

I think before the tier implementation, on the new port code, Malfestus was the only one who completed the quest for the Orcrist. I was the second if I remember, but a bit later, after that Exodus, Virisin, Jumjum at the time?, Robert, Lionheart, Jason, and Erwin (not positive) followed, uncertain on the exact order anymore, just remember being the first after a very long time of nobody getting it. I think it took me getting it to set Viri on having to finally finish it. I did it prior to return wands.. my way of doing it was a simple alias and bring a pet and my mount. I simply gave tons of potions to my mount and pet, and ordered them to drop them in the room next to the boss, and a simple alias to go into room, behead, retreat west, quaff potions, and repeat. each behead may have done like .5 % of his health, but after enough rotations he surely went down.
Remembering how hard Greenie was back in old port, I wouldn't have liked to see Balrog back then...

Gojira was a tough mob, but I didn't beat him until I was a GM and had damn near infinite casts of cure critic, so just did tank as long as I could, with a high wimpy, then heal in between.

Voltron I would say was one of the toughest, not as much at first but more so after he was 'fixed' once upon a time you could blackjack his hounds, and just fight him one on one, but I think they were eventually made unblackjackable. So you needed another way to fight him which was attack a hound and then have it 'hunt' you to the next room. then you do that and kill each hound on at a time until it was just V. Now I believe that's not a possibility and you have to pretty much fight all 5 at the same time making it a lot of damage against you. Damage shaming even Goji.  This is all what I remember, may or may not be the case.

I still think Erwin and I are the only two to have found all of the zone flags currently in the game. Virisin was close behind us and I'm certain could find the remainder of the flags if he set out to do it..

I was always looking forward to finishing the 12 deeds of Hercules, I know there is a few others out there that got to the same point and I'm sure want the same thing!

There are probably lots of other things out there, but those are what come to mind atm. Can't wait to get back into the game. Only 4 months left of this deployment! At work I can't connect to the game due to security settings, can only get to the forums here. And after work I only have roughly 30min at the MWR computers to talk to my wife and get on the game. Definitely excited to try Avalon!

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Fleeing Experince
« on: February 21, 2010, 09:16:11 pm »
Why lose experience for fleeing anyways? Not everyone has the skill retreat, GM's Warrior's and Rangers only. So... come new code unless there is another way to escape a battle or retreat is given to all classes, we'll always flee on tough mobs and therefore always lose experience...

But here is an idea, every time you flee, you lose experience... like now. However, the total experience received from the kill has those flee's tacked onto it. So let's say Gojira becomes more ultra than he is now because we will undoubtedly need to group to kill him. And say everytime the group flee's his experience becomes more and more. This group gives up and another group comes along and kills him and they get all that extra experience because the mob was just that good.  This solution gives the individual a chance to get that exp back  if they finish the mob off, or just take their losses and give someone else the benefit of their loss.
...just a thought.

How about this.. if we keep flags..
Reset people's gold to 1000 or something to start out with that would be reasonable.
Everyone's character reset to level 1.
Everyone's remorts set to 0.
Stats allowed to be repicked, just the same as recreating (permitting we like the way stats affect us - that'll be changed and have to repick stats anyways)
Clan's in their size should stay. Clan's should keep their crashproof rooms. If they have a stable or space station, they'll need to upgrade to get those back.

Houses can stay how they, minus mount, space station. If someone happens to have servants in their house, just keep them. The house is merely RP factor for the player, has a story. It's not like one can back convert from a 50 room house into tokens? So if this means people will spend their tokens on a house or on their house to make it nicer, what's it do? Adds more rooms to the mud? Add more atmosphere? There is no real fair way to do houses and keep that sense people has worked for. So without wiping everything, keep this. Still have max capacity set to 500.  These are just
Perzes. Have to redo the quest for the original item, and buy the perz back with a silver plus the item.

This solution is nearly identical to the last pwipe, but we keep the flags. And if tokens were 'cheated' for there's still some things, like mounts, and such that are lost and need to be re-earned, granted it'd be way tougher for people who have already done many of all the quests and don't really have tokens left. So if this were the case, I'd self delete from the beginning, recreate, just to get my flags back.. or make a new character and dont bother focusing on Xer, start a new.. Perhaps get the house back and thats it..

Now if we keep the flags, propose, keep everything the same as I have it up there. But Perzes will be 7silver again, or whatever new cost is decided, and you still need the new item. All you gain is what you invested in your clans or your houses.

All we need is an automated leader retire if they become inactive. Or if they are going on vacation and know they'll be gone they can put in a vote with the clan to extend their time by such and such so they arent removed. And if they retire, again a clan vote to promote one of the members to leader. If there is only one active player, lucky them.

See suggestions forums, many ideas in favor of keeping new players, I think clans will be a major factor. And making the first tier be way easy to level, make them be like oo this is nice.
