Yep yep, beta testing- the most important step one can ever take when implementing such a large change.

I think you guys have missed the point entirely.

The skill tree system WILL in fact work with the way our zones are set up. The problem here is that the class system we have are so "slapped together" that it is embarrassing. 4D put all of their effort into building wonderful zones, and not once did they ever truly put any thought into our classes. I can even bet that their convo went a lot like this:

"Hey I have an idea"
"What?"
"Let's change the old fighting system, and add tiers to them."
"What is the point of that?"
"So it makes us APPEAR legit"
"Oh, not a bad idea. We are out of date.."
"Oh, and let's add a crap ton fo spells that really wont matter"
"Why?"
"Because it looks cool, and wastes peoples practice sessions"
"Sounds good to me, I love wasting their practice sessions!"
"One more thing."
"Hmm?"
"Lets add GM, and then gimp the hell out of it later just to mess with everyone, and piss off the ones who went through all of taht trouble to do it."
"Great!"

And what really makes me mad is the use of pick lock. You can't use it. Everything AND it's mother is !pick. Stop putting in skills that wont be used. There is no reason for it.

Point is is taht we have our classes which were thrown together, and never truly balanced. Ranger has YET to every truly be worked on. They figured "Oh, ranger can wield short and long weapons without pentalty, thats enough for him", yet do you SEE any rangers doing it? No, because dual wielding is a waste of time. The only reason to even level it up is for the mastery XP bonus...that's it.

The skill tree system has been deeply thought out, and planned. Every single player will have a niche in 4D that makes them not ONLY an asset to themselves, but to everyone else. The impact on the PBase would only go as far as you typing in a simple command to convert over from the shitty system to one that actually works. No Pwipe. And Molly has suggested that people get some sort of compensation for their efforts in the past system. That sounds pretty fair to me, in fact it is down right generous. Not only would you get a GREAT system, but also compensation. Can't complain much there!

The system is great, and the classes are wonderful. Gypsy has some great class depth now, as to many others.

General Discussions / Re: Is leveling fun?
« on: April 27, 2009, 06:15:51 pm »
Well as it stands there is no realm point aside from finding the right gear, and thus having a good boost in stats so that you can safely quest. There is no true class system. Everything was just thrown together, publihshed, and then gimped harcore.

4D has always been more quest heavy coupled with tons of grinding, but we never had the high lvl area shortage like we do currently.

I would actually propose (I dunno if such a code exists) a system where mobs are only as powerful as the player. Meaning taht if a level 10 player goes up against a mob, it will be around the right kind of level for him/her to gain xp on. This way we dont have such huge level gaps betwene zones.

Leveling would be a lot more fun if we could get this class system finished, and posted for reveiw because then everyone could not only have their own niches in 4D taht benefits everyone, and creates true diversity, but also the drive to truly go out and level knowing that it is doing me some good. GM is for the most part useless aside form our spellups. Can't even solo Gojira or the leviathon anymore. Oh and on top of that Ranger is (altho still my fav) gimped as hell...we ourselves have no niche whatsoever. We can use short and long weapons? Oh, tahts SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome...yeah I still use shields because dual weilding is lame and gets you killed harcore. Yeah, the system needs some change. But not the kind of change where we throw out bailout packages and tirllion of dollars that will bankrupt a country :D

General Discussions / CHANGE OF HANDS
« on: April 01, 2009, 02:32:07 pm »
So, when was somebody going to tell us about this sudden change of hands?
Even though I am a HERO, meaning I'm the IMMs assistant for the players....I still need to ask
the question we are all wondering-

WHY didn't anyone tell us?
Why were we not at least informed taht 4D would take such a huge turn?
What does this mean for us?
How will this effect the quality and gameplay?

We are the mud worlds elite slooths. Nobody can quest like we can. We are not simply hack 'n slash.
With the NEW staff building.....what does this mean? Does our standard change? Will they understand how our system works?

I can see some good things coming out of this such as:
round the clock coding
balancing
the class system that horus and I proposed which is now being written.
balancing

However, what I do not want to change is what 4D has been for over a decade. Where is our skull? I have been looking at that skull since I was...what? 15? I'm 26 now. The skull means a lot to me, as I am sure it means a lot to many others.

This is not a discussion to flame our new hands. This is just a place to voice everyones concerns and desires.

I welcome the new staff, but I ask that the new staff does not impose too much change as to deface what we have all known for a very long time. I think the changing of our login screen is going to cause ripples, and I would advice that they take into consideration our feelings as 4D residences.

Please bring back our skull :(

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Things that need a fixing
« on: March 23, 2009, 04:45:31 pm »
Rescue is bugged badly.
Hungry and Thirsty should be taken away from nobat, and added to the regular functions. Hungry and Thirsty should also impact dmg, and vit. However, the rate at which you become hungry and thirsty should be slowed. We need to make these functions important, otherwise they just belong in nobat. I really think they should be implemented though, including sleep. We need to make players tired and require them (if they ahven't had food or drink in a while) to become tired, and they need to sleep. Yay  for sleep deprivation! brings down dmg, and vit. So long as you stay fed you'll be okay and you'll not have to sleep.

General Discussions / Re: PERZED MOUNTS: TOO WEAK FOR UBER ZONES?
« on: March 23, 2009, 04:39:09 pm »
I think some of the biggest problems here is not the level of MOBs. It's their tiers. If mobs tiers stayed at 0, that would be fine, but as it stands we all stay away from fighting T1-4 mobs due to the fact that despite how much wonderufl eq we have, we will have our asses handed to us. Yes, I enjoy a challenge, but having a mount certainly doesn't take away form taht challenge. I still ahve to heal constantly, and so on, not including the fact tat I have to heal my mount. This being the case, an increase in mount tiers automatically would help us all out trmendously. It's nice when I get lucky enough to laod a T3 perzed mount because I know she wont die, and she doesn't take away from the hard battles at all. She is just sitting tehre looking pretty, and not dying.

I think you have (with all due respect intended Molly) have assumed what we are looking for is power increase. That is not so. We are looking for perzed mounts not to be outdated. Mounts are a staple in 4D history, and it would be wrong to have other things outshine them. They need to be upgradable. Of course players would pay for the top tier. So make it expensive. Even if its 5-8 silver...or even a gold. Players who are willing to work hard should be able to have the best in their mount. Perzes are investments, and perzed mounts are a very special investment because it allows us to move with ease without taking form our vit, and giving us a very slight boost in speed and damage (very slight).

I ask that you take this into consdieration. We could really use the ability to upgrade our mounts. We truly need them as we grow, and the increase of greater zones comes to. (my person project).

General Discussions / PERZED MOUNTS: TOO WEAK FOR UBER ZONES?
« on: March 21, 2009, 03:01:27 am »
As the zones grow increasingly powerful, we find taht the perzed mobs are too weak to keep up. They last only a few minutes or more (if you're lucky) in places like Dinos, DP, Egypt, and so on. Mobs tend to ATTACK your mount before attacking you. If possible do you think for a certain amount ot tokens you would want to increase their level or tier so that they can keep up with you?

What I have noticed is that the expensive mount loses its worth as you become more and more powerful. The more remorts you stack, and the more quest equipment you gather, your mount becomes obsolete which can make it very difficult when taking on much more powerful mobs.

As it stands the mud has progressed greatly, and the mobs have grown. However, perzed mounts have been left behind. They were great in the older days, especially when mobs weren't attacking them outright. However, today that is not the case.

Once the release of my zone comes to fruition (I'm working diligantly to get it done soon) the importance of mounts will grow because of the great difficulty of what players will face. This fact will increase as my other much smaller projects (in scale) come to in the future. The reason for more uber zones is for more powerful and experienced players to be able to actually feel challenged. As it stands we only have dinos and DP to challenge our blades. I will be challenging both brain AND blade in the very near future.

What I propose is that players with perzed mounts be given the opttion of increasing their perzed mounts tier level by 1 per every 2 silver tokens. This will increase their likelyhood of survival while in the harsh fields of the larger areas.

I should state that this is not for the benefit of myself, but for the mud as a whole. I am and have always been a very poor player here with a handful of bronze here or there. I've never been one for getting tokens- This idea would be difficult for even myself to fund outright, as like everyone else, I am an ordinary player trying to help improve 4Dimensions, and keep it consistent.

Texas Rangers would be warriors.

Rangers are rangers, you cannot just change something because it suits your taste. Texas Rangers didn't even exist until VERY late into the game, and they were cops with licenses to kill....STILL are in fact. Do not confuse rangers with cops.

If you want to have proper IC consistancy with Old West it NEEDS to be the Hunter because the old west is all based on the popular sites along the gold rush/oregon trail. They were miners, hunters, and trappers. Texas Rangers were LAW INFORCEMENT.

here I even included somrething from wikipedia to suport my arguement:

The Texas Ranger Division, commonly called the Texas Rangers, is a law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction based in Austin, the capital of Texas, in the United States. Over the years, the Texas Rangers have investigated crimes ranging from murder to political corruption, acted as riot police and as detectives, protected the Governor of Texas, tracked down fugitives, and functioned as a paramilitary force at the service of both the Republic (1836–45) and the state of Texas.

here are some otehr listings for RANGERS (law enforcement types)
Police forces

    * Arizona Rangers, a former law enforcement agency in Arizona
    * California State Rangers, the state's first state wide law enforcement agency formed in 1854
    * Newfoundland Rangers, a defunct police force of the pre-confederation dominion of Newfoundland
    * Texas Ranger Division, commonly called the Texas Rangers, is a law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction based in Austin, the capital of Texas

here is something else:
Ranger or Rangers may refer to:

    * Ranger (usage), the original word meaning gamekeeper and subsequently soldier

NOOBODY else were called rangers aside from park rangers...which would be more akin to the REAL ranger class.

Something you guys are constantly forgetting is that our system is based on dnd. Rangers are rangers, and always have been. Just because foreigners are trying to loosely base a class off of true american history does not make it right.

Just to clear soemthing up since I'm am an American-

Rangers are not old west vased. Rangers were medieval inspired, and are a cross between warrior and cleric. Their abilities to use swords is very much IC, BUT rangers FAVOR blunt weapons.

HUNTERS however ARE Old West because that was the big thing for us americans was all of the hunter trappers that populated the old west (I grew up on the Oregon trail...and know a lot about it).

Just thought I should clear taht up since if we're going to base things on IC stuff, they should be "historically" accurate.

As for being more overpowered than warriors? Ranger is the only class to be posted first. As you can see you're the only person wiling to post anything... So anyway, we are waiting before posting the rest of the classes.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: 4D where is it headed?

What's wrong with the system is that it's messy. The system was for the most part slapped together with the purpose of making GM's, and then gimped the hell out of everything. Most of the skills and spells that exist are useless. We have mental magics, fire magics, and so on that aren't so amazing. We have people who can make caster eq...and nobody plays them. We have brew that nobody uses. We have firearm, and so on that is equally useless. Tanker classes can't tank properly.

This is basically what you have:

Dependancy of Healers that don't really exist.
False proffession niches.
Inefficiany.
Zero Supply and Demand.

On all other things, I agree with you that things here aren't exactly built for ALL types of mudders. We have an aweful lot of gaps, but taht is our goal, is to FIX those gaps. What you have right now are some very experienced tema sworking on making 4D better for everyone. These are not just simply people who will vanish in a week. There is a HUGE sense of dedication behind this drive for something better.

This new class system is being written as we speak for an official proposal for implementation. Those who have remorted will be rewarded for their hard work. None will be left behind, and you will be able to experience a far better and more fluid system with very VERY little wrinkles. The system is easy, and very linear in terms of comprehension.

I understand your concern whole heartedly because we have seen first hand what kind of drastic changes for the bad can do to us. We can go form 30 active to 15 in less than a month because something was done that truly didn't benefit everyone. The skill system is the prime example of this very fact. We made it harder for people to progress whereas they should have really just gone to their own respective guilds.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Idea: New Currency System
« on: February 27, 2009, 12:17:04 am »
No no no, I'm just thinking of separate ways about doing things. Having 8gazillion coins is just retarted. Might as well use them somewhow. Not about wiping peopels banks, and changing coinage amounts- tho I would agree to changing coinage amounts provided. But, what I'm going for here is to give people more access to things they woulnd't otherwise have.

If I have to spend 2 hours for 6TP, it's not worth it. not in the least. Quests have their place. TPs...were just useless. We need to be less stringent on our pbase because we have a rather rediculous choke hold on everything. It's the PBase that keeps 4d alive, we need to give them other ways to shoot for things. I wouldn't mind being able to actually invest my coinage into a home. Makes far more sense to me than just hoping to perz everything possible, add the needed scripts, buy the best home, have a top mount, and so on. Not enough tokens out there. RP groups cost tokens too! (which is stupid), I have invested so much into what once was an active group, am I going to be able to get a refund? Nope. But I have 1bil coins sitting and doing nothing. I think it would be nice to know I could buy things of worth.

Point is is that we invest our time here, and have only quest eq, some perzes, maybe a mount if you're lucky (because you need a stable...heh which requires a house), and so on. It's spendy and unrealistic. Not EVERYONE is a crack shop questor like some people. You need to think about that aspect too. There needs to be a fine balance between hack 'n slasher, and questor.

As it stands do you realized that MANY of the homes that exist are because someone went and built a zone to get a house? 4D doesn't reward like that anymore. Should I actually finish my large zone, and get everything in...what am I going to get: choice to have an IMM, OR a couple of tokens. No home. Not for me. Not for my hard work. But a lot of the fellow oldies sure took advantage of an old reward.

Lessen the noose. Give people some more headroom here. Make tokens purchasable, or creating a coin price. Something. I just like the ideas of rubies, and jewels and stuff because it looks nice. Gives people more to do for themselves. That's all. I want to create more fluidity. :)

Suggestions & Ideas / Idea: New Currency System
« on: February 26, 2009, 06:40:59 am »
Hello everyone. I have a new currency system that I would like to bring to the table. First let me state my case, and then continue forward from there.

As it stands coins mean squat in the game. Yes, we have these strange TP's that NOBODY uses because it takes so flipping long to do anything of worth. I just spent 2 hours gathering stuff, and got like 6 total TP's to show for it. I can go walk right into a quest, complete it in the same amount of time, and earn myself a friggin silver. This is rediculous. Next, tokens. Tokens are WONDERFUL quest rewards, and there are a ton of them out there if you look so they have their own place, like TPs, within the diverse world of 4D. However, what good are coins? Well, coins buy us heals when we actually use them, wands should we ever be desperate enough to hold such heavy things, and occasionally we give 200mil to some unsuspecting newbie. Mostly, we just hoard our coins. I would estimate that the average bank/player rests comfortably at 800,000,000 coins..wasting away. Reward Points- Way useless. We rarely give them out, and it takes forever for players to gather anything worth squat for say a pre-title ability. I used to do everything I could to hand out points so people would use them- However as a RPL/Hero- RP Points don't mean a thing- I can't earn them, and I'm stuck with only a FEW of the commands from the list.

This is what I propose-

I propose that we include JEWELS in shops for people to buy. Each jewel is worth a particular amount. Instead of holding coins in the bank, we hold jewels of difefrent types as follows:

Middle grade: Red Ruby (worth 5mil coins)
High grade: White Diamond (worth 20 RR)(100mil coins)
Exquisite: Jeweled Egg (worth 20 WD)(2bil coins)

The purpose of this is to create player treasuries that aren't so...bland, and it also makes the bank look much cooler. If you need to cash in some rubies for cash, you just deduct them from the bank, and sell them back to any shop for the EQUAL price you originally paid for you.

Next: I believe to bring up the player base, we need to give players a little bit more freedom by allowing them to access restrings more readily. By this I mean that since the IMM staff is so busy, they might as well use their HERO's who are the IMM lackies. Giving the HERO's this ability means tat a player can come to a HERO, and PAY for a restring for say 5 JE. 5JE would be worth probably close to 2bil in our current coinage.

This reason I am also proposing this system is so that there is more cash flow going around. People are spending more instead of just endlessly hoarding. Just because we are restringing something doesn't mean it's being perzed...just renamed.

Which leads to my next chart:

 Exquisite: Jeweled Egg x 3   = 1 Restring (1 Silver)
 Exquisite: Jeweled Egg x 21 = 1 perz (3 JE per script) (7 Silver)
 Exquisite: Jeweled Egg x 18 = 1 lvl 50 mount (6 silver)
 Exquisite: Jeweled Egg x 90 = House (+30 per upper grade of house) (3 Gold + 1 Gold/Upgrade)

This is just an example. I think that a currency system like this is more interactive and I think that we could even use this for mob trade quests as well. As you can see I'm calling for a slight decrease in the prices for housing because I think that we need to make the ability to own homes a little more accessable. The reason being is that not everyone is quest savy, and though this may hurt some prides from other players who have worked hard to get where they are today- I say get over it. I think that on top of the new class system being worked out, there is more that can be done to entice newer peoples into staying. Giving players more accessable options like buying restrings from 4D staff to create item uniqueness, and the ability to USE our coinage for the purpose of purchasing all that is available via tokens will help KEEP people here because it gives them more "reachable" goals. Housing and such is truly a minority, and I think that since it is the players that keep the mud going, they should be given a little slack on things.

If you think that the regular token system is fine, and you don't want to change how the treasury works, then I think we should at least allow for players to be able to BUY tokens from the token machine near recall for the same prices as the proposed jewels/jeweled egg.

This is just my proffessional opinion, and hope to hear some feedback form the staff on this. I would like to avoid nay saying from oldbie haters who own everything :D We really need to start thinking outside the box rather than within the confines of the "power" we have emassed over the many years.
