Duration of Spells
« on: May 21, 2008, 10:57:53 am »
I've recently been hit in a fight by spells like 'CONFUSE' 'CORRUPT ARMOR' 'WEAKEN' 'etc..'
Those last almost as long as a life-time which translates in around 130minutes.

I really can't see the point in having to weak your opponent for that much time, I believe a PK or ARENA fight that lasts long would end in about 10minutes.
It's useful versus mobs I agree, but you can always recast it every 10 minutes.

I think it's annoying to PK a caster and then get weakened for 130minutes even after you kill him. What do you think?

Maybe something that removes the spell if you kill the caster?

To keep things as simple as possible, I'd go just for reducing the amount of time for offensive spells.
I find it very annoying to try and have fun fighting someone for then being blocked for an hour.

I agree, we shortened magic bubble to only a couple minutes, I think most debuffs should be short.

Longer time on mobs, shorter on players? Some boss fights can take quite awhile ;)

Recast it on mobs, most debuffs don't work on boss mobs anyway. Can you honestly say you notice a difference when Gojira is slownessed, corrupt armoured, confused, paralyzed, numb minded.. etc?

Shouldn't be too hard to shorten the duration of the spells. What do others think?

I'm ok with shortening the timing. Because I think it really matters is the duration on PCs, as the NPCs that can be affected by it either show no difference, or die in 1-2 rounds.

But, should beneficial buffs time be shortened as well? I remember someone posting (Virisin or Lionheart) that caster classes lose out in the long term to melee classes, since most caster buffs/debuffs are found on potions/wands, yet it isn't the same for melee buffs/debuffs. Shortening the beneficial buffs might reduce the gap between melee classes and caster classes, they'd have to carry more potions -> more weight -> speed decrease, as a trade-off.

*Actually how about if you don't have the spell, quaffing the potion/using the wand is only half as effective?

Why would you carry around potions/wands if you have the spell... no.. don't answer that.  Why would you use potions/wands if you have the spell... no.. don't answer that either.

My point of the above is: if the caster is carrying around the potions and wands for the spells they have, why should the warrior that is doing the same because they don't have access to the spell, be punished for it?

Now, I will say that maybe we have too many potions/wands in the game that take the place of caster spells (heal, fireball, etc) so maybe those should be cut back so that the caster will have an advantage because they CAN cast those spells and the warrior can't.   (Which also affects groups in my opinion - why group with someone when you don't need their spells/skills?)

Then again, I'm sure there are reasons for those potions and wands to be in the game.

Right, fair enough. Then what about beneficial buffs to be shortened then, *when quaffed by a potion.
Say, you're a caster. You cast sanc, you get a 30 minutes sanctuary. You're a warrior, you quaff a sanc potion, you get 5 minutes sanctuary. Something like that, anyway.

That's good, but I'd also like to remove most potions and wands.. It's far, far, far, faaaaaaaaaar, far, far, far, etc, to easy to fully spell up..

They're already removed you dipshit. Quit constantly trying to have a go at me and think constructively for a change.

Cheers to that, and thanks for the compliment, you've always been so kind.  Also, I second that most wands/potions be removed or what not, to more so depend on players than having everything readily available via them.

Oh, and just and FYI... I just checked... if they were already 'removed' as you said, in such a very colorful manner directed towards myself... then let me ask you this???
Why could i just use a scroll of identify on this item, and have this result yielded?

You recite a scroll of identify which dissolves.

Once a certain something I have is gone along with this next bit I've located, then I'd know this situations been taken care of.
I kept this for proof for an instance such as this. Clearly it's not been.. want more proof? Here you go... something I just located...

A silver wand is in a small, painted chest.

And....

A small, painted chest is in The Freezer.
An ornately carved chest is in The Freezer.
A small, painted chest is in The Freezer.

Surprise, surprise!
Who uses this Freezer I wonder???? I think you know ;)
I'd be willing to bet the wands that are in that ornately carved chest are the ones I saw on locate as opposed to the others. At least the ornately carved one I'm sure about, can't guarantee on the ones in the painted chests...
So whomever owns these I'm sure has given them away to people to use for their own benefit in the past, maybe in pk matches, or mayhaps have used them himself/herself and  apparently he/she claims that he/she dosn't have them anymore cause they were removed.. I'd suspect this individual was lying, but I'm a dipshit, I guess I wouldn't know.

So all in all, this certainly is interesting, in my opinion.. don't you think so too?
Sooo, please choose your words more wisely from now on princess. :)
