RPBACKGROUND

The beauty about creating character backgrounds is that other people can

read them on our website, and get a sense of WHO you are, and WHY you are

that way. If you're a bitter old man but in the past your wife left you

for a goat. Well, we can understand your bitterness.

So the question remains: What makes a good background?

The answer is simple: They all do (within reason)

You can write your background like a story, where you talk of your

characters past in the third person (Faeryl went to Luskan), or you

can talk in the 1st person (I later went to Luskan). Or even still,

you can have someone ELSE tell your story! (You know, I heard about a

lass name Faeryl who went to Luskan, and became a Merchant Queen some

years later.)

So where should you start? Anywhere you want to start your characters

life. You can Make it detailed, or vague to add some mysterious

atmosphere to him/her. But if you find yourself a little short on ideas

we have provided some thinkers for you:

  • Birth Place (where it all starts)
  • Great Event (something that changes your mindset)
  • Tragedy (The loss of a loved one maybe?)
  • An evil villain! An ill fated love. <3
  • Your origin (Different planet/world/dimension?)
  • Tiny events (Fillers to give you some depth)
  • Great Adventure (Something epic, be it past or present!)

The above are just some ideas to think about. Try not to make your

character overly powerful, and always win, like say a fight against the

entire Greek Pantheon and destroying it. So think carefully, and see what

you can come up with!
