Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Player Wipe (PWipe)

I wouldn't like to lose anything, as I have put a lot of time and imagination into it, but as the discussion continues to draw out, I'm caring less and less either way.

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Award Points
« on: November 11, 2009, 03:07:29 pm »
People that just hand out award points for nothing are what cheapen them. Why Virisin has over four hundred points is baffling, as I've never seen him roleplay, and that INCLUDES during the world-wide RP event.  :P
Then again, while Virisin was gone, I'd make the clannies roleplay and they'd get NOTHING for it. Well, they were amused, so I suppose that's something.
Award points aren't that easy to get. I've told several people that've asked me for points to fuck off, as they haven't done a damn thing to earn them. Do I fancy a great deal in the term 'roleplaying'? Absolutely. Sell it.
Hopefully, now that Natalya is back (you'd better stay -_-), we can get something exciting underway for people that want to gain points for pretitles, restrings, whatever.
Also, Sarias. I'd also roleplay with you if our schedules ever coincide.

As a casual player with an actual affinity for real life, I oppose the idea of having my things obliterated. My character? Sure, wipe her out. She rolled really crappy stats at creation and should have been destroyed long ago. I have no objection to having to construct a custom skill set when the new system is implemented.
My mount, house, perzes, whatever? Psh, it took me years to collect the tokens to have those made, and I haven't grown bored enough of them to just say, " Yeah, let's all be equal. Just make all my past efforts obsolete." I haven't got all the time in the world to customize my character again, nor will I spend the time that can be much better spent doing something that's actually productive. If it ushers in another golden age of gaming, then so be it. I'll take one for the team, but I will be crestfallen. I have this unsettling suspicion, however, that a pwipe isn't going to reignite people's interest or ambition toward the lost art of mudding.
I voted yes nonetheless. Who knows what the future will bring?

General Discussions / Re: Getting and Keeping new players

Another thing that'd be good to think about when trying to lasso new players is not to immediately involve them in pre-existing mud drama, or general personal matters that are already familiar to oldbies. They don't care. Shoot, half the other players could care less either. Nobody cares with whom you do not agree, and having it out with them over the newbie channel is lame.
Try not to weird them out already! I've met some of the most amazing people here on this mud and have enjoyed being a part of the game, and would love to have new players able to say the same.

When noobs ask questions, and this isn't just directed at helpers because EVERYBODY should help:
Be direct. Don't perv.
Interact with them without giving copious amounts of hand-outs.
Enjoy the intensely descriptive game we call 4D!  ;D

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Skills

Getting skills here when you're totally unfamiliar with the realms is a difficult task indeed. Most older players will be more than happy to take you to whomever you may need. Some charge a fair price, and others will be generous enough to do it for free.

Hang in there!  ;D

Suggestions & Ideas / Re: New Achivements and Title - idea

Quoting Molly:
"I must confess that initially I was also temped by the opportunity to get rid of some of the more silly titles that players set on themselves. Mainly the ones that have a bad syntax, which make them look silly when looked on. It seems many players only care about the wholist when they set their title, and don't realise that the title also shows in their long desc."

Yes. That bothers me as well, and making it poof would be great for my OCD.
*looks for a smirk smiley to no avail*
If you need help brainstorming different titles for achievements, I'd be glad to lend a hand.

Hrm. I don't know if I like the idea. It seems that we're planning on putting code in the place of good old fashion imagination. Coming from someone that has probably had some pretty obnoxious titles, I can see where you'd want to have some sort of regulation. However, it could quite possibly be a simple matter of an imm typing 'tell (player) Change your title, blowhard.' It's your right to regulate titles, so if you want to code a bunch of stuff to fix the problem, g'head. I do like the idea of having a list of achievments, but feel pretty badly for the poor sap that has to code all that stuff in. :-\

Roleplay / Character pictures

So I went through the entire internet looking for something 'Kitolani' enough, to no avail. I decided to try my luck at sketching her out myself, and had to put Celestia in there too, since well...she's stuck with me for life. The artist isn't responsible for how much you think this image sucks.

Can we make projectiles more sexy please? As it is now, they're no more fearsome than a fly bite.
I'm not entirely sure if this was done for a reason, or whether these were just the standards for a world
with much less armor to hide behind, but projectiles have the capacity to be extremely entertaining instead of just remaining obsolete.

Weapon        Ammo       Range              Max damage
Throw             -             1                      Avg 10
Grenade          -              1                     Avg 20
Sling             Rock           1                     Avg 10
Bow              Arrow         2                     Avg 20
Crossbow        Bolt           3                     Avg 30
Gun               Bullet          2                     Avg 40

Hrm. If I happen to shoot at somebody ,and in the unlikely probability hit them dead on, I want to see some serious blood. Maybe then even the more skilled players would opt for a more unconventional weapon of choice rather than whatever the strongest sword of the day may be.

Oooh, I'm feeling the outcast flag idea. I also agree wholeheartedly that if you wish to expel yourself from a clan without the knowledge of the leader, it should come at a price. I also think a silver is very generous. I'd say gouge the heck out of them in the pockets so that they take joining clans in the first place seriously.  Jumping on the first clan that offers you a position is the worst idea in the world, and nuts to those that do it. It's the reason Rynock ended up in a clan like Table Round and not Dark Jedi where he belongs. I know that roleplaying is optional and all, but it'd be nice if the members of a clan actually fit the descriptions given to the players in the clan office. Meh.
Funny, I was just going to start a thread on opening clans. I think that it would spice things up quite nicely. As it's impossible to actually loot vaults and such, I don't see any harm in it whatsoever.  I can see both RP and PK benefiting from opening clans, but as with many things, there may be a down side that I don't see. As far as for RP reasons, diplomatic associations would be much more personal if you invited the person you intended to make allies or peace with to your home. That's just basic protocol. As it stands, you can't do that.
As for PK, I can see there being one less safe place to hide for those that lust for blood. That should keep people from going idle too often. :P
In conclusion, great ideas. Make it so! >.<

So are we breaking out the gladiators to run these events, or are we going to use our own characters?
